Salmon Fly

Salmon Fly

This is a Pteronarcys californica - a salmon fly - on the upper Colorado River. A nice young man told me they taste like tofu.

Spinney Reservoir

Spinney Reservoir

You simply MUST come belly boating at Spinney with me.

Ice Fishing Antero

Ice Fishing Antero

We might even go ice fishing at Tarryall Resevoir and catch fat rainbows. These fish are stocked, so we often keep them.

Brown Trout

Brown Trout

If you pull them up by their heads you can often remove the hook with a hemostat without touching them.

River Hag

River Hag

I enjoy rowing my huzbun down the river so he can fish. It's my pleasure. If the water gets too big or I am too tired, he will row.

Texas Creek at Taylor Park

Texas Creek at Taylor Park

Colorado has many high-altitude open valleys called, "Parks" with streams to fish. Taylor Park has a reservoir and many streams to choose from.

Yes, I ate these.

Rio Grande River near South Fork

Rio Grande River near South Fork

We don't often catch wild rainbows due to those fish making a comeback from Whirler's disease in the last few years. That said, this fat boy made us very happy to prove they are surviving.

North Platte above Saratoga

North Platte above Saratoga

Saratoga, WYO not only has this lovely river to fish, but the town also has multiple hot springs resorts, fine restaurants, antique shops, golf, and a chariot race with horses!

Rainbow

If you net them and turn them over on their backs gently, they will hold still and you can take the hook out gently.

Belly Boating Spinney

Belly Boating Spinney

When the trout is upside down, it will hold still and you can remove the hook then set it free.

Eleven Mile Canyon Winter

Eleven Mile Canyon Winter

We fish all winter and so can you. There are multiple rivers and streams in central Colorado that never freeze.

"My huzbun doesn't often offer his opinion but when he does, you should listen.. He has very good advice."  - Me

Here is a really fun video of 11,000 cuttbows being released by Mt. Shavano Fish Hatchery in Eleven Mile Reservoir on Feb. 23.

(Video recorded by Bob Garrett, V.P. for Governmental Affairs, Cheyenne Mt. Chapter of Trout Unlimted in Colorado Springs.)
